“My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”
— Ruth Bader Ginsberg, former US Supreme Court Justice
Hello everyone!
We are so excited to share with you the first newsletter of the quarter! All of us at COMS Club hope you've had a great start to the school year. This newsletter will be pretty brief, but as an introduction, our newsletter will be broken into three main sections: Introduction, the COMS Town Hall, and Internships and Events.
For our first week, Cal Poly COMS Club and the COMS honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, hosted a joint COMS Club x Lambda Pi Eta welcome back event. We thank everyone who was able to make it! Check out the event recap on our blog!
Next week, we will be having our FIRST official Cal Poly COMS Club meeting of the year! Join us on September 23 from 11-12:00am PST for Meeting One: Welcome to COMS Club. It will be a quick welcome back meeting where we will introduce the new board and our goals for this year and this quarter. Subscribe to our Google Calendar to never miss a meeting!

Have you heard about the COMS Town Hall?
COMS Town Hall is a program hosted by the Cal Poly COMS Club. A combination between a town hall meeting and a book club, the goal of this program is to provide a space for Communication Studies students (as well as other interested students and faculty) to discover relevant and/or communication studies (and related) materials to explore interesting and important topics. Additionally, this program provides a platform for students and faculty to build community and dialogue outside of a strictly academic setting! Learn more about the program on our website!
Each week, we will share a topic alongside several materials (videos, podcast episodes, articles, book recommendations, etc.) to get you thinking. The Cal Poly COMS Club will host bi-weekly (every two weeks) a 1-hour facilitated meeting (separate from our usual club meeting) to regroup and discuss the materials presented. Help us learn what YOU are interested in discussing through this short interest form.
There is nothing you have to purchase, and there is no required commitment to the program to join in a meeting! Come by, meet some friends and professors, and have a chat!
Look out for these cool opportunities and events coming up! Internships and Jobs
No details yet, but check back next week for something new!
