[S'21] Newsletter 27: Week Six!

Every day is a fresh beginning;

Listen, my soul, to the glad refrain,

And, spite of old sorrow and older sinning,

And puzzles forecasted and possible pain,

Take heart with the day, and begin again.

Susan Coolidge, American author (excerpt from New Every Morning)

Senior Project: Alumni Research Survey Hello! My name is Kaela Hoisch and I am a fourth-year Communication Studies student. For my senior project, my goal is to propose a formalized alumni program for our department. I want to ensure that students and faculty have better access to alumni for a multitude of reasons, as it can open so many doors for faculty, students, the department as a whole. To better understand how an alumni program will aid our department, it’s critical to hear from Communication Studies majors and minors on your experiences with the department and alumni, how you see alumni fitting into the department, and thoughts on involvement with the department as you become an alumni. This survey is anonymous and should take no more than 10 minutes. All feedback is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or suggestions: Kaela Hoisch | kaela.hoisch@gmail.com

You are invited to participate in this survey regarding LGBTQ+ identity and the pandemic. We are a research team at Longwood University and California Polytechnic Institute and are conducting this survey as part of a study on LGBTQ+ college student experiences during the pandemic. Your participation in this study will require completion of the following survey. This should take approximately 5-10 minutes of your time. Your participation will be anonymous and you will not be contacted again in the future. Your answers on this survey will not in any way be linked directly to you and your answers will remain anonymous. While you may experience some emotional discomfort, we believe this survey does not involve any risk to you. Although you may find it interesting to participate in this study, there will be no direct benefit to you from your participation. You do not have to be in this study if you do not want to be. We will be happy to answer any questions you have about this study. If you have further questions about this project or if you have a research-related problem, you may contact the principal investigator, Dr. Erin B. Waggoner, at waggonereb@longwood.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, you may contact the Longwood University Institutional Review Board (IRB) at 434-395-2318. The IRB is a group of people who review research studies to protect the rights and welfare of research participants. I understand that if I have concerns or complaints about my treatment in this study, I am encouraged to contact the Office of Academic Affairs at Longwood University at (434) 395-2010. If you identify as LGBTQ+ and were a college student during the pandemic, you are eligible for this study. Please find the link here: https://uconn.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6xT22OON5LcRt2d
