How's everyone's week five? We all know mid-quarter is rough - and burnout is too real. We hope everyone's able to get in some self-care and rest in-between everyday's meetings, classes, and assignments AND voting!
This week, we held our voter registration seminar extravaganza! We covered some quick tips and advice on how to make your vote count this November! Anika walked us through the different ways we can submit our vote: by mail, in-person, drop-off, and through a conditional ballot. She then gave some great tips for how to know what to vote for; her recommendation was using a spreadsheet to organize different endorsements to find how well your different interests and communities aligned on propositions and candidates. Another resource she shared was Voter's Edge, a fantastic website that helps do that cross-analysis for you! Our board also briefly brought to attention 5 California propositions: Prop 16, 17, 18, 22, and 25.
For your reference, here were all the references and resources we used:
For anyone who still hasn't registered to vote in California, your deadline to register online is October 19th! (And if you miss registration, PLEASE still make it out to the polls to fill a conditional ballot! The last day to register for in-person voting is voting day!)
For our last 15 minutes, we opened the space for our Mentors and Mentees to meet together one-on-one. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to that check-in! For all other Mentors and Mentees, please find some time this week to exchange contacts and meet briefly with your Mentor or Mentee.
Next week, we will not have a general COMS Club meeting. This time will be blocked out for our COMS Mentorship cohort. Each group should use that time to meet together to exchange contact information, complete activities 1 and 2, and check-in with each other. The regular general meeting Zoom link will be open for Mentorship groups to use (our board members will be there to facilitate and place people into Zoom rooms), or you can meet separately.
For Mentors, we hope to organize a (~spooky~) Mentors-only check-in and orientation soon. Please check your Slack and email for more updates!
Also, check out our Virtual Fishbowl every Thursday afternoon from 2-3pm PST! Our Fishbowls are a casual study hour; drop by to ask a question, say hi, or just to have some company as you study. Learn more here.
Again, it was so great to see everyone this week, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon at our next meeting, Wednesday, October 28th from 11am-12pm PST. This meeting will be a Schedule Builder Session with COMS Club and CLA Advising; stay tuned for big updates on this event!
All the information shared in the meeting can be found on our website or detailed below in the attached slides:
