Another week, another meeting! Thank you to everyone who made it out for Meeting 2: What is COMS?.
This week, we went over a bit about what COMS is, as well as a number of subfields within the communication studies discipline. Our board broke into breakout rooms to chat more intimately with our members and to answer any specific questions they had about the board members' fields of interest.
If you weren't able to make it to a meeting, but still would like to learn about the resources shared, check out these resource sheets below! If there are any more questions you would like to ask, please contact any of the board members directly, or reach out to any of the relevant faculty listed in the resource sheet.
Shelby: Critical Cultural Communication - Interpersonal and Intercultural
Michelle: Media and Communication
Chelsie: Rhetoric, Persuasion, and Writing - Interdisciplinary Applications
Anika: Social Science and Research - Technical and Medical Communication
Sammy: Wild Card! and More Resources
COMPLETE Ver.
*As a note, these resources are meant as a suggested guide made by the board members based on their own personal experiences. They are not exhaustive guides on these topics, but can be a starting point for students looking to explore these topics.
Next week, we will be hosting a space for our new Mentor-Mentee groups to meet for the first time! It is NOT too late to sign up to be a Mentor or Mentee. Both interest forms for the 2020-21 COMS Mentorship Program are still OPEN. The program will have rolling application throughout the quarter, but the first round of mentor-mentee groups will be announced October 7th (Meeting 3). Learn more here.
